TN Board Passing Marks 2027
To pass a Tamil Nadu public examination, a candidate must reach the minimum mark in every subject. The general rule is the same for Class 10 and Higher Secondary, but how the marks are made up differs.
| Examination | Maximum per subject | Minimum to pass |
|---|---|---|
| SSLC (Class 10) | 100 | 35 in each subject |
| HSE +1 (Class 11, arrear exam) | 100 | 35 in each subject |
| HSE +2 (Class 12) | 100 | 35 in each subject |
How subject marks are made up
- SSLC: each subject is marked out of 100, including internal assessment where the scheme provides it.
- Higher Secondary: subjects without practicals combine theory and internal assessment; subjects with practicals combine theory, practical and internal assessment. The subject total is out of 100.
Component-wise rules (for example, whether a minimum is required in the theory paper alone) are set in DGE’s scheme of examination for each year. Always confirm with the current DGE notification or your school.
If you do not reach the pass mark
You can apply for retotalling or revaluation if you think there is a mistake, or write the supplementary examination in the same year. See our guides to revaluation and retotalling and supplementary examinations.
